About Winding Stairs Trail
If you are looking for the ultimate hiking destination that offers scenic views, rivers, swimming, and camping, look no further! Winding Stairs Trail is precisely what you want. This trial has so much to offer, including excellent views of the Ozark Mountains and access to clear emerald-blue water that you can go swimming in.
The trail is a 4.8-mile in-and-out trail that takes approximately 2 hours to hike—allowing you ample time to stop, take in the scenic views of waterfalls, and go swimming in the river.
Another significant aspect of the hiking trail is that dogs are welcome. Therefore, you can bring your furry friend for a fun day under the sun. With the park being open year-round, you can get your furry friend out of the house regardless of the season, day or temperature outside.
What to Expect at Winding Stairs Trail
The trail is a popular hiking destination in the Ouachita National Forest. When you first start your hike, you may find the course needs to be better marked. However, since it is a popular hiking destination, you can follow the beaten path. Although, when in doubt, follow the white blazes. Furthermore, if you are worried about getting lost, bring a GPS to navigate the trail.
During your hike, you will come across several creeks you will have to pass. Bring water shoes (or an extra pair of shoes) that you can get wet and a towel to dry your feet off. The last thing you want is to hike the remainder of the trail with wet shoes. Since you are crossing a stream, use your best judgment, especially after heavy rain.
Along this path, you will experience several different rock formations, cascades, and rivers. There are also several swimming spots you can stop and take a dip. You can also hike to peace rock, which offers incredible views. The views alone are well worth this hike.
